The DHBA’s work is done through committees. To join a committee, please email secretary@dallashispanicbar.com. Below is a list of all the Committees that serve under the DHBA.
The Annual Event Committee plans and executes the DHBA’s signature fundraising event, “Noche de Luz,” an awards dinner that primarily raises funds for scholarships for Hispanic students at the three Dallas-area law schools. We also honor DHBA members, Dallas community members, and in-house counsel.
The
Voting Rights and Civic Engagement Committee
promotes civic engagement among our membership and encourages voter
registration and voter protection in the community.
The
In-House Counsel Committee provides
a space for Hispanic in-house counsel in Dallas to network and engage in
professional development.
The
EducationalInitiativesCommittee
plans events that focus on education and outreach to students in the Dallas
area. Our signature event in recent
years has been the Youth Law Symposium, which educates high school students
about the legal profession.
The
LatinaLeadershipCommittee
organizes an annual program targeted to the unique professional needs of Latina
lawyers and law students. The committee is working on presenting the 7th
Annual Latina Leadership Program in the Fall of 2022.
The
Lawyer Support andBusinessDevelopmentCommittee is
focused on the wellness and business development needs of our members,
including subjects like nutrition and mental health. We foster a confidential
and supportive space for DHBA members to discuss every day issues in the legal
profession. Initiatives include advice and guidance on professional
development, support for members seeking professional awards and nominations,
and referrals of DHBA members for prospective clients.
The
Judicial Diversity Committee
addresses issues relating to diversity in the judiciary, including pipeline
programs such as our Judicial Externship Program. Law school students receive a
stipend to clerk for federal and state appellate court judges in Dallas during
the summer.
The Immigration
and Citizenship Committee develops programming and pro bono assistance
regarding immigration issues affecting our community. We frequently collaborate
with other organizations such as Catholic Charities, Human Rights Initiative
and RAICES on immigration workshops and clinics.
The
Communications Committee explores ways to better communicate with our members, including collaboration on how to improve the DHBA website, member E-Newsletter, and distribution of information regarding DHBA’s projects and events.
The
MembershipandOutreachCommittee recruits and welcomes
members.
The
SocialCommittee organizes social and networking events, including joint
events with other minority bar organizations and local Hispanic business and
civic organizations.
