2023 Noche de Luz Awards
The annual awards will be presented at the Noche de Luz Gala on
Saturday, October, 14, 2023, at The Statler Dallas from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Estrella Award: Elizabeth A. Spencer Bethiaume, Associate, Squire Patton Boggs
Elizabeth is an Associate in Squire Patton Boggs’ Data Privacy, Cybersecurity and Digital Assets team. She assists clients with building and updating their privacy compliance programs, advises on product development, counsels on integrations with and development of artificial intelligence products, prepares public facing privacy disclosures, drafts data sharing agreements, and performs due diligence for M&A transactions.
She focuses her practice on adtech companies, financial services, retail, and business-to-business organizations. Prior to joining Squire Patton Boggs, she was an in-house privacy attorney for a financial institution after starting out her career in the private equity space supporting international M&A transactions. In addition to her volunteer work with the DHBA, she serves on the Board of Directors for SiNaCa Studios School of Glass and Gallery, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing a world-class educational facility for the introduction to, and continued learning of, traditional glass arts disciplines.
Elizabeth received her J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law and her B.A. from LeTourneau University. She and her wonderful husband, Nathan, share a love for Formula 1 and have been married nearly 11 years.
Volunteer of the Year Award: Laura Baez Torres, Founding & Managing Attorney,
Laura Baez Torres Law PLLC
From San Luis PotosÃ, Mexico to a distinguished Dallas attorney, Laura’s journey is marked by contributions to both immigrant and Dallas communities. Starting as a teacher in the Dallas Independent School District, Laura’s realization of the immigrant community’s significant legal needs inspired her shift to law. Her dedication is showcased by over 200 service hours via the Dallas Bar Association’s Entrepreneurs in Community Lawyering Program and roles on the Adelfa Callejo Board, Dallas City Council’s Permit and License Appeals Board and DHBA's Latina Leadership Committee.
Since 2018, Laura's involvement with the DHBA's Latina Leadership Program evidenced her commitment to both professional and community growth. Her active participation since the program's 2014 inception during her law school days underscores a commitment to enhancing Latina leadership in law. Laura’s contributions earned her the DHBA Volunteer of the Year Award and a spot in D Magazine’s 2023 Best Lawyers in Dallas. Each accolade underscores her harmonious integration of legal mastery and heartfelt community service.
Balancing a notable legal career, extensive community service, and family life with husband Jake Torres and children Esteban and Angelique, Laura stands as a symbol of the attainable synthesis of professional triumph and communal enhancement, imprinting every interaction with enduring integrity and impact.
Corporate Counsel Diversity Award: Stephanie Zapata Moore
Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Vistra Corp.
Stephanie is executive vice president, general counsel, and chief compliance officer of Vistra Corp. (NYSE: VST), an integrated power company based in Irving, Texas. Previously, Moore served as vice president and general counsel of Luminant, a competitive power generation subsidiary of Vistra. Prior to joining Luminant in 2005, Moore was an associate at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP (now Foley & Lardner LLP) in the corporate and securities practice group, where she focused on mergers and acquisitions and private securities offerings.
In addition to her responsibilities at Vistra, Moore is in her first year of a two-year term as Chair of Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas having served as a director since 2016 and as chair of its Nominating and Governance Committee from 2019 to 2022. She is also a member of Hispanic100. In 2022, Moore joined the Advisory Council of PODER25™, a program of the Hispanic National Bar Association whose mission is to increase the number of Hispanic attorneys occupying senior positions in corporate legal departments.
Moore received her undergraduate degree in English from Duke University and her law degree from William & Mary School of Law. She and her husband live in Dallas with their three daughters and son.

La Luz Award: Bridget Moreno Lopez, Managing Partner, Dallas,
Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP
Bridget Moreno Lopez is using her platform as the Managing Partner of the Dallas office of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP to lead by example. Born and raised in a traditional Hispanic household in Woodrow, Texas, south of Lubbock, Bridget was raised by a family who believes in commitment and a strong work ethic. Lopez received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, cum laude, from Texas Tech University, the avid Red Raider set her sights on law school and proudly earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1999. Lopez then moved to Dallas to work for the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office as a child abuse and family violence prosecutor. She joined the Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP law firm in 2004. Linebarger is a national firm, representing governmental entities in 12 states across 49 offices. Collecting over a billion dollars annually for government sector clients, her practice has an extensive history of serving the communities it represents.
In 2014, she was appointed Managing Partner of the Dallas office, the second largest office in the firm. She became the youngest person to join the firm’s Management Committee, where she has served for the last nine years. Lopez’s purpose is rooted in giving back to the community, at the age of 27, she served as the youngest member of the Redistricting Commission. She served on the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Board from 2016 to 2018 and was a member of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center Board of Directors for six years. After the pandemic, advocacy for women in the Latino community became of the utmost importance.
In 2021, Bridget served as the Hispanic 100 Latina Giving Circle co-chair and in 2022, she dedicated her efforts to co-chair The Concilio’s Big Dreams Gala. Most recently, Bridget cochaired Social Venture Partners Philanthroparty event, with the most funds raised to date. Last year, Lopez also served as the Treasurer on the Transforming Dallas Committee Board.
Lopez was recognized with several distinct honors in 2022, including D Magazine “Dallas’ Best Lawyers” award, the “Outstanding Award in Business” by the City of Dallas, “Women in Business” honoree by the Dallas Business Journal and elected to membership in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. While Lopez is proud of the recognition and accomplishments, her greatest joy is raising her son Ryan and daughter Alessandra with her husband Roy.
